The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), under the Ministry of Education of Nepal, is the national autonomous apex body responsible for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. It also serves as the official Skill Testing Authority of Nepal through the National Skill Testing Board (NSTB).
The NSTB conducts skill tests based on nationally approved Occupational Skill Standards. Every individual must demonstrate competency through a performance-based examination to obtain a National Skill Certificate, which verifies that the certificate holder meets the professional standards required for a specific trade or occupation.
In the mountaineering sector:
Level 4 is the highest occupational rank, recognized as a National and International Expert in Mountaineering.
Level 3 is certified as a National Aspirant Mountain Guide.
Recently, CTEVT awarded Level 3 Skill Certificates in Mountain Guiding to 12 individuals. This certification recognizes them as qualified Aspirant Mountain Guides, meeting the national occupational standards set by the Government of Nepal.
This milestone represents a historic step toward integrating Nepal’s traditional mountain guiding training and field experience into the country’s formal vocational education system. It strengthens professional recognition, enhances international credibility, and creates a structured career pathway within Nepal’s mountaineering industry.
Those interested in becoming certified Nepal National Mountain Guides can apply through the National Skill Testing Board (NSTB) and undergo the occupational skill test according to national standards.
