Completion of Aspirant Guide Course (AGC) – 2022/23, Entry Exam and Component I
Aspirant Guide Course (AGC) – 2022/23, Entry Exam and Component I; a joint mountain guide education program of Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) and Nepal Mountain Academy (NMA) had been conducted successfully at Kathmandu and Rolwaling, Na, Dolakha. The course was started by 20th December 2022 at Kathmandu with the entry exams and conducted successfully by 25th Jan 2023 at Rolwaling, Dolakha with training and final examination of Component I. The team had arrived at Kathmandu by 29th January 2023.
The course is accredited by International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA) and conducted under the direct supervision of Technical Committee of NNMGA. First generation IFMGA guide of Nepal Mr. Tshering Pande Bhote had been chosen as “Education Chief” where Mr. Lam Babu Sherpa, Mr. Tshiring Jangbu Sherpa, Mr. Hareram Khadka, Mr Narendra Shahi (Convener-NNMGA Technical Committee), Mr. Pimba Tenjing Lama, Mr. Vinayak Jaya Mall, Mr. Abiral Rai, Mr. Pemba Gyalje Sherpa and Mr. Anup Gurung were involved as course facilitators. The course duration was consisted of Entry exams on 4 different modules on oral, Rock, Ice and Mixed terrain and 17 days of training and 3 days of final exam for component I.
During the course, Mr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, Director, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal encouraged the training crew by his presence at the training camp at Na, Dolakha. Mr. Khatiwada was there to observe the mountain guide education system in Nepal.
Initially, we had 16 applicants for the entry exam but we had only 11 successful trainees from the Component I. There were 5 applicants who were expelled in different stages of evaluation in the course.
